In the Smock area is a big red door that is very sturdy and slides on rails with a good heave. Behind this door is where we keep our lovable, strange IT team.

Printer Shoes
Printer shoes are happy shoes. Thanks for the fine display Mr. Patrick!
Coming Soon: Website Maintenance!
We’re preparing to move our website to a new server Tuesday night. As a result, there will be some instability on boxcarpress.com on Wednesday, August 31. You may experience a lag time in requests to our website and even in our email correspondence due to DNS caching.
If you are in need of new photopolymer plates or other supplies within the next few days, we strongly recommend getting your order in by the end of the day tomorrow – Tuesday, August 30. Things ought to settle down by Thursday, September 1.
Printing customers: The server change will not affect you beyond the delays in correspondence mentioned above. We’re always available via phone.
Platemaking customers: During this time, we’ll be wiping all credit card information, so don’t be alarmed when you make a new purchase & your information is gone. The platemaking ordering process has been re-written from the bottom up, but you should not experience major changes otherwise. Let us know if you have any problems submitting orders!
Supply customers: We will not be able to process credit cards initially, but we will still take your order through our shopping cart. We will touch base offline to work out payment details. You can call us at 315.473.0930 & provide payment information over the phone.
We apologize in advance for the disruption, but rest assured that our IT team is working to make this transition as painless as possible. So don’t forget to grab a bag of popcorn and check the @letterpress on Twitter for real-time updates for the exciting transition!
Ladies of Letterpress Conference
My very dear Cathy went to the Ladies of Letterpress Conference recently. (Read the post about her experience here!) She brought back many fine items, it did bring a tear to my eye to see this magnificent array! There are so many talented people out there, such a crowd of kindred souls that love this craft. Keep it up, do more! Next year’s conference will take too long to get here.
Working in Comfort
Here at Boxcar, we believe in comfortable working environments. If you run a press I hope you have an anti-fatigue mat of your own. Cushy flooring really makes a huge difference running a letterpress all day or just for a few hours.
Fancy edges
Take a look at one of our newest Smock offerings- fancy diecut shapes with edge painting added on.
Luscious Waves
Jeff is printing these wonderful waves in a dark blue ink on ivory cotton paper.
Partytime
To celebrate 10,000 orders and Bella Figura launching online ordering, we had a party today! Balloons, festive fruit, tables outside loaded with food and people! What more could we ask for? The weather was perfect, and the cake was delicious. Lovely.
Vandercooking
This is the most glamorous sign I’ve seen in a while! Letterpress printed on the Vandercook press because of it’s large size (11 x 17), great texture is achieved with impression depth and super thick plush paper. Such an elegant way to maintain privacy.
Ink Mixing
Mike is mixing up a batch of custom light purple ink. Each component of the color is weighed out on the scale to get just the right proportions. The blobs are then vigorously blended, pushed and pulled into a nice smooth large blob of ink that is ready to go on the press.
