L Letterpress Printing Results

A while back, we reviewed the L Letterpress and provided some printing tricks and tips for achieving good quality prints with the L Letterpress and our KF152 photopolymer plates. Amy Graham recently put our tips to the test, ordered a set of plates and with a little and trial and error, printed her own letterpress wedding invitations. They look great! Amy shares, “The results are impressive, using your suggestions.  I achieved the best results using minimal ink and cleaning the plates, roller and inking block about every six prints.”

Drill, Baby, Drill Letterpress Print to Benefit Oceana

Our friends Chandler O’Leary of Anagram Press and Jessica Spring of Springtide Press shared their latest collaboration with us and it was too meaningful of a project to keep to ourselves. Their newest broadside, entitled “Drill, Baby, Drill,” was created in response to the oil spill in the Gulf and features a quote from writer, scientist and environmentalist Rachel Carson, from Under the Sea-Wind. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to Oceana, an organization dedicated to stopping offshore drilling. The print is a limited edition run of 136, 10 x 18 inches, printed on a Vandercook Universal One press. Each piece is printed on archival, 100% rag paper, and signed by both artists – you can purchase yours here.

“To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the sun lines of the continents for untold thousands of year…is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.”
– Rachel Carson

Letterpress Business Collateral for Revival

A while back we had the opportunity to print some letterpress business collateral pieces for Revival, including these letterpress hang tags. They are a cool combination of simple typography on recycled chip board, which we printed and then hole drilled for merchandising.

Spring Cleaning – When the Fridge Attacks

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at a letterpress print shop? Consider today your lucky day. We’ve been so busy printing lately that our fridge has long sat sadly neglected, piled high with the remnants of delicious meals past. When we could stand it no longer, we decided a little spring cleaning was in order. It took two brave souls over an hour of diligently scraping dishes and checking expiration dates, but the Boxcar Press fridge is no longer a dark and scary place. Good thing we compost – we filled our compost bin right up!

Cloudy Collection Prints Vol. I Ed. 3 Letterpressed by Boxcar Press

Dubbed The Scarlet Lettering, the third edition of the Cloudy Collection was amazingly cool to print. Appropriately enough, this series of illustrations was printed in a bright red ink and blind deboss with a hit of transparent white for a bold and graphic effect. For more information about the Cloudy Collection check out our interview with Cloudy Collection mastermind Dave Huyck. All of the prints in the Cloudy Collection series are available for sale on the Cloudy Collection website.

Letterpress Save the Dates for The Pink Orange

We printed these cool letterpress save the dates for Rebecca Ashby of The Pink Orange for a client of hers seeking a design with a distinct beachy feel, but a unique edge. We printed these with a letterpress flood in yellow and they are paired with a sweet 2-color letterpress #10 business envelope with a string and button closure. You can read more about the design on Rebecca’s blog.

Letterpress Holiday Cards for The London Hotels

We recently printed these letterpress holiday cards, designed by Korn Design, for The London Hotels. They feature a very cool bulldog all dressed up in his winter finery for the holiday season, printed in 2-color gray and brown letterpress.
