Fashion week invitation

This is one of our favorite letterpress jobs, designed by Ben Whitla at Korn Design. It’s one of the coolest uses of a tinted blind deboss that we’ve ever seen (the darker tint we ran on our Heidelberg cylinder press — lots of coverage that beat down the paper, which allowed the white of the paper to form the words and the outline of a jungle). On a side note, we have to mention that the designer Ben was Boxcar’s first ever employee, and he kindly ran Boxcar Press for a few weeks back in 2002, after working with us for about 5 weeks, so Harold & Debbie could run off and get married and have a honeymoon).

Crazy press moving contest update

Thanks to everyone who entered our Crazy Press Moving Contest. We were blown away by the bravery, courage, and creativity that letterpress printers muster up when forced to move really, really heavy equipment. We’ll be announcing the winner, and honorable mentions, with the next issue of Flurry (sometime in October). Until then, enjoy the suspense! Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories.

Bye bye old plates. Hello recycler.

We had to say goodbye to a whole lot of polymer when our recycling guys came for pick-up. We sent away two 40 x 48 x 48 containers: one for steel-backed plates, and one for plastic-backed. That’s a whole lot of polymer! Our recyclers also picked up a large container of film negatives to recycle. We would have been sad to say farewell if these plates and negatives weren’t going on to a good and resourceful second life. Want to recycle your plates too? Read about our photopolymer recycling program.
