Our environmental goals
1 year goal (by October, 2009)
(we will report back on the progress of our goals in Jan./Feb. 2010)
- Start a photopolymer plate recycling program for our platemaking customers to keep photopolymer out of the landfills and make letterpress more sustainable
- Reduce the amount of paper we use:
- Decrease the amount of offcuts/overage we create by 10%
- Reuse 20% of offcuts that would otherwise be in recycling
- Reduce office paper consumption in office by 30%
- Reuse 50% of inbound corrugated we receive
- Reduce our carbon footprint
- Reduce energy usage in the office and print shop by 20%
- Convert to non-disposable printshop rags that are rewashed and reused
- Create a definition/checklist for sustainable letterpress printing; work with 3rd party (university or nonprofit) to develop; communicate with letterpress printing world;
- All paper used in our print shop and offices is 100% renewable or 100% recycled fibers
- Become better connected to the local community by developing a strong partnership with a local nonprofit;
- Integrate our environmental goals into our job descriptions and performance reviews
- Conduct a sustainability audit with a trusted and knowledgeable third party
- Transfer to a green web host (using renewable energy) when technically possible for our web sites
- Develop a screening process for vendors that helps ensure we work with environmental/socially conscious companies
3 year goal (by October, 2011)
- All envelopes we use in our offices and our shop, including those envelopes we custom convert, are made from 100% renewable or recycled fibers
- All our custom letterpress paper is made with 100% organic/pesticide free fibers
- Reuse 100% of inbound corrugated we receive
- Find a lower VOC, petrochemical free solvent for our shop
- Obtain environmental certification from a trusted third party
5 year goal (by October, 2013)
- All envelopes we use in our printshop are made with 100% organic/pesticide free fibers
