If you are printing and see some scuffs or scratches in your inked areas, a protective varnish, such as High Gloss Overprint Varnish, can provide a good barrier and resistance from scuffing. If you are also getting a little letterpress ink transfer from the printed front of an letterpress inked piece onto the back of the next piece, a varnish can help minimize that. Uncoated paper stocks as used in letterpress have a rougher surface and the rubbing of the back onto the inked front can attract ink. High Gloss Overprint Varnish is intended more frequently for offset printing and coated paper stocks where it can lay down a glossy overprint, but it also works as a sealer that can provide protection on your letterpress printing projects.
